So I'm having a bit of a moment with makeup and skincare products — I can't stop buying new things. I mostly blame YouTube and the beauty bloggers who make every product they try look so enticing — you can pretty much always find me on my Sephora app or Glossier.com adding things to my cart as a YouTube video is playing away in the background.
However, over the last year or so I've become really in touch with what my skin needs and when, and what kind of makeup will, without a doubt, get used up in my stash (I've long stopped buying lipsticks I know I won't wear simply because the packaging is gorgeous). So in the last few months I may have put my wallet through hell a bit, but every purchase has proved to be worth it so far (ah, sweet, sweet justification).
Here are the handful of products I'm loving at the moment.
Glossier Invisible Shield Daily Sunscreen. Admittedly, before I hit my late 20s (woof), I wasn't all that concerned with sunscreen aside from the times I was blatantly laying in the sun at the beach or by the pool. This, of course, was a silly philosophy, as I'd get way too much color at outdoor BBQs and at rooftop drinks with friends after work — aka, other times I was fully in the sun. I've finally realized that the sun can see me whether I'm intentionally tanning or not, so I set out to find a daily sunscreen that didn't feel oily or chalky on my skin. Enter: Glossier's daily sunscreen, which feels like a moisturizer in gel form. I put it on as the last step in my morning skincare routine and before makeup, and it's become so much of an automatic step over the last few months that I've (more than once) instinctively put it on even when it's raining.
Glossier Soothing Face Mist. When I purchased this face mist, I wasn't really sure how often I'd use it, but my friend who's an esthetician recommended having a spray in my arsenal to keep my skin hydrated and cool in the summer months, since I'm naturally dry. It's definitely still something I have to remind myself to use, but every time I have, it's felt like giving my skin a quick boost of life. It's something I typically reach for when I'm not wearing any makeup, but I've also spritzed myself over my done-up face (with my eyes covered to avoid smudging my mascara), and found it just as refreshing. I'm not sure I'd use this much in the colder months, but for now, I'm really digging it.
Herbivore Coco Rose Coconut Oil Lip Conditioner. My lips tend to get dry no matter the time of year, so I've been really loving this oily lip scrub. After my morning skincare routine I normally pop some of this across my lips as I get ready and wash it off before applying makeup. Sometimes I'll smooth some on at night when I'm doing a mask, too. Makes my lips feel like a baby's tush, just the way I like 'em.
Nars Orgasm Afterglow Lip Balm. I'm not huge into lipstick, even though I'm huge into lipstick. That's to say, that while I have a few very nice lipsticks that I love the look of on me and am constantly looking at new ones in Sephora, I rarely reach for them except for on nights out or on special occasions. I'm constantly touching my face and often bite my lip mindlessly, so on a day-to-day basis, lipstick seems like more work than necessary. I've been very into Glossier's Generation G lipsticks, since those go on more like balms (shoutout to the brand's cherry Balm Dotcom, as well) — I find myself more willing to reach for a sheer matte formula than a true lipstick formula. So when Nars released their expanded Orgasm collection, I knew that its pink balm would be a perfect fit in my growing sheer lip collection. There haven't been many days I haven't worn this since I got it!
Hourglass Vanish Flash Highlighting Stick. As it says in my about me page, I'm truly passionate about champagne-colored highlighters — if it has champagne in the name like this one, that's just a hilariously ironic bonus. Despite having several similar highlighters (the Glossier Haloscope in quartz and the Milk Makeup Highlighter, which is a bit darker, are among my favorites), I couldn't help but get my hands on this Flash Highlighting Stick immediately. Now, full disclosure: I hate that it's a triangle shape, as it somehow makes getting it on more difficult, so I've been applying it with my fingers rather than swiping it across my cheekbones. But the color is to-die-for and makes my skin look so much less dull than it actually is.
Glossier Lash Slick Mascara. I am a mascara freak. I will try any formula with any wand, despite knowing what works best for my lashes. I do have long lashes, which I realize is a blessing, so when it comes to mascara, I look for a formula that will add volume, but has a brush that separates the lashes so it doesn't look like there's a full tube of dry mascara sitting on my lids. This mascara, a long-awaited formula from Glossier (just waiting for the bronzer now, guys!), has been the perfect mascara for my lower lashes, and as a first layer up top. It separates the lashes super well and provides a base for any other thick and volumizing formula I throw on top (right now I'm loving Lancome's Monsieur Big). Or, on days when I have no other makeup on and want to keep things natural, this mascara looks great on my bare face and gives my eyes a bit of definition.
ZOEVA 102 Silk Finish Face Brush. After hearing Anna Newton of The Anna Edit go on and on about this brush, I bit the bullet and placed an order. I have a few other ZOEVA brushes, all of which I love, so I already knew I'd be into this one. Because most of the products I'm using these days are cream-based (I just started using the Milk Baked Bronzer and holy, that has changed the game for me even more), I was in the market for another brush to squish those products onto my face. And holy smooth, Batman, this soft brush feels like a dream on the skin and blends out said products so beautifully. Highly recommend (thanks, Anna).
Glossier Stretch Concealer. I'm firmly in the camp of people (whether they'll admit it or not) who prefer slathering their entire face in concealer to avoid using foundation. I start with my under-eyes, which are genetically baggy and dark (thanks, Dad), and before I know it, "covering a spot here and there" always turns into an full face. Before discovering this Glossier concealer, I was exclusively using the Nars Soft Matte Complete Concealer. Now, I pop the latter on my under-eyes because it's a bit thicker of a formula and doesn't budge throughout the day, and the former everywhere else. It's a thinner formula that does move around a bit and definitely doesn't make it through a 12-hour day looking flawless, but because I'm more of a minimal coverage girl, it works out well. (If you're more into a full coverage concealer or something that will sit on top of your foundation without moving everything underneath around, this one probably isn't for you.)
